Gone, but not forgotten ...
This site is created by and for the Yamaha Royal Star Enthusiast.
Royal Stars ONLY please. No Ventures, VStars, Drag Stars, LoneStars, Windstars, etc. Not to be picky, and everybody's welcome here, but this IS the Royal Wrenches site, doncha know.
Well, we have to admit that the Mighty Royal isn't perfect! What bike is? Except maybe for the new Goldwing, and it's so perfect that it's boring. Don't get me wrong - the stock Royal Star is a fine machine as is, straight out of the box. These things are built like tanks, and durability is not an issue. Handling is superb, and I was immediately impressed with how easy it was to drive, especially considering it's massive scale. One of the first things that struck me was the untapped potential, both in customization and performance. Never forget, buried within it's meek, mild exterior lurks the beast known as the VMax. So what niggles and caveats do we have about the Royal Star? You'll find it here!
SPECIAL NOTE ON COMMENTS: If you've got some extra pearls of wisdom you can spare regarding a specific topic, feel free to add your comments by clicking on the links below the articles. Try to go for Maximum Info, Minimum BS and please stick to the topic. Keep in mind, women, children, and sensitive, misunderstood biker types will be reading these nuggets, and some are quite easily offended and/or confused (hey, I resemble that remark!). We're going for clarity here, and doing it to keep the backyard wrenches out of trouble and on target towards a successful project. I reserve the right (hey, it's my site, doncha know) to edit and delete any postings to meet these simple guidelines.

Note: I am a backyard mechanic and have gotten pretty handy with tools over the years. Been driving Yamaha's since the '70s and have amassed maybe half a million miles on two wheels. Along with practical experience, much of the info contained in this site comes from reading the experiences of others on the ISRA bulletin boards. For more information, please search those boards or post your questions there; they will be answered! I find the regular crew to be a vast suppository of accumulated knowledge, and most of the members willing to share and give a helping hand. They can also get you in touch with fellow bikers in your area who may be able to help (or at least drink your beer and laugh a lot) as you tear into your machine. It would probably be a good thing at this point for me to mention the fact that what you do is your doing. Do NOT make any serious modifications to your bike without first knowing what you're doing. What works for me may not work for you, and what I post here should not be taken as gospel. I can hardly be held responsible for my own actions, much less yours!! Do yourself a BIG favor and get a copy of the factory service manual and review it before trying anything you haven't done before. That said, I find wrenching to be a very satisfying experience, and hands on is the best way to learn. |
Keep in mind this is kinda like a part time job for me, so I can't always promise I'll be regular about posting updates. Email me if you find any misteaks, or want to suggest (or better yet, provide) a topic for an article.
Don't forget to stop by the Royal Riders Gallery to view some of the choice bikes out there. Take a look around, drool a bit, and maybe even submit your bike for addition to the gallery.
